Think of all the successful leaders you know, and then think is there something common in all of them? Most probably the one common trait in all of them will the ability to communicate effectively.
At Toastmasters, we strongly believe, that every person has the potential to become a good communicator and leader. What is required is the chance to develop this potential. With the Youth Leadership Program, we help the young generation in developing this potential through practical experience, so that they can grow to meet the challenges of leadership successfully.
The program is based on 8 to 10 unique workshop style sessions, that give the participants a chance to learn by doing. The aim of the program is to equip the future generation with tools that help them with following aspects:
- Overcome nervousness when speaking before an audience.
- Organize and present ideas logically and convincingly.
- Offer advice to help others improve without criticizing them.
These young people are the leaders of tomorrow, by providing them guidance through the Youth Leadership Program, we are empowering the next generation with a very important skill of life – effective communication.
The best part of the program is when at the end of it they have a look exhilaration on their faces and the satisfying smile that says “I have the power of effective communication”

Thank you – not sure who is responsible: maxim or Richa. This is Colleen Shaughnessy-Larsson DTM and D59 PQD and the originator of YLP in France. I am so excited to see this article for promotion, It is a photo from Sophie Tweed’s group. She continues working with YLP and has now moved into Reformative Justice and the Ministry of Justice for troubled youth. Paris is in its third year and the YLP guide and workbook will be translated into French this year by two of our local Toastmasters. YLP is about to move into the French sector in Paris and Orléans. These truly are our leaders of tomorrow.
While on the floating academy ALLeGRO in December 2018, four Toastmasters gave a four hour Masterclass of condensed YLP. Like sponges, the teens (13-16) absorbed every iota of information we had to share; held a contest; and went on to compete with the adults. Julia Sommer Carrasco placed second among the adults!
