In relation to the decision of the Board of Directors from 24/08/2020:
“In the event that an in-person event is organized, the District must provide online participation options for members who cannot attend in person. In addition, effective immediately, all Speech Contests at the Area-, Division-, and District-levels must be conducted online. This applies to all Districts regardless of their local authorities’ restrictions or lack thereof, related to COVID-19.”
our team decided to postpone the GOW 2020 to next year’s Halloween weekend 29th – 31st October 2021.
Your health and safety is very important to us. We have considered doing a hybrid event, however, with only 2 months to go, the logistical challenges are too complex. Moreover, with COVID-19 situation in Romania and in Europe – we feel that the situation is too unpredictable to attend a major event.
Therefore organizing a hybrid Game of Words is not feasible and we believe holding the tournament entirely online would strip the debates from its heart – spontaneous interactions between the debaters and public, and between debaters themselves.
On the bright side, we have now a whole year to organize a Debating Tournament which Europe has never seen before!
